I've just picked up a roland vintage synth module and am in love with many of the sounds - all the ones I grew up with (rhodes, hammond, mellotron etc). Banged into my looper, you get this glorious impenetrable wall of sound. I can seriously see myself doing a gig sans geetar at some point.

Interesting. What model? How vintage? It's part of the JV1080 sold as a standalone rack unit. See www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Birdland/3547/rev-mvs1.htmSomewhat lacking in programability (by today's standards) but the sounds.... I used to loop with my sh-101 synth back in the 80s (wish I'd kept it) so it's about time I tried something other than a geetar

I'm looping with a Nord G2 at the moment as it's pretty compact and capable of a huge range of sounds

I'm looping with a Nord G2 at the moment as it's pretty compact and capable of a huge range of sounds I'm pretty sad really, just want to emulate the early sounds - rhodes, L100, mellotron etc. I presume the G2 is synthesis rather than sample based?

Somewhat lacking in programability (by today's standards) but the sounds.... I think not, tho' I couldn't be 100% certain. I have the JV1010 which is programmable via SoundDiver (special edition bundled with the hw) Just about everything is tweakable with a pc and a midi interface. Surely the 1080 is similar, barely controllable from the front panel, but with sound diver goes to nerd heaven.

I'm one of the few non-guitar loopers I think Never heard of this model before but I have used an JV in the past. Glad you like it

I had that JV1080 model which I sold last year. Wish I had it back now. I purchased a new Roland Fantom XR ,which is great, but I need a second for my current setup I'm putting together. Looking at the XV-5050 or the JV-1010 also. Gotta figure out a way to rackmount the JV-1010 though.

I have the xv-2020 I have gotten some nice results using it it records well, quiet easy quick If I have a specific sound in mind it's groover I have not added any expansion boards yet. I have a nord modular rack mount and it was really amazing. I hope whom ever has it now is enjoying it.

since my last reply I've moved on to looping all sorts of synths and have done sets with the following, usually solo, often just through a filter e.g. frostwave resonator, korg mini-kp or korg monotron
ems vcs3 casio sk-1 casio pt-82 korg kaossillator korg microkorg moog micromoog nord modular nord modular g2 sequential prophet vs waldorf blofeld yamaha pss-380 yamaha vss-30
