some kind of loose connection? sometimes apparently there's no input. When I go away and make me a coffee, it is back again when I return. Also, the patches seem to appear and disappear. Sometimes my favorite patch is there as it always was, then a minute later, it sounds boring and flat. Anyone have a similar experience? I guess I'll have my electronics specialist apply his magic spray.

Anyone have a similar experience? yes - from time to time, particularly after some extended encoder turning, I find the echo isn't in the patch any more. A quick reboot fixes it, but it's annoying. I'm tempted to hardwire a reset switch to the front panel, since there's no on/off switch. I daren't take it out live though ;( It's frustrating how companies like Lexicon and Alesis release amazing products, but fail to extend their life-span or develop them. A vortex with midi would be ace, an airFX with (hmm) midi would be equally cool and presumably fairly cheap to implement. I wrote to alesis with a list of ideas, but they "have no plans to develop the product". This seems to me to fly in the face of business sense.

Is it possible it could somehow be related to the rotary encoder ?, this is a very common problem with the Vortex. It doesn't sound like an encoder problem though, although if some of the settings are changing on their own (which can happen with an encoder fault), you may get a 'flat' sound I guess. Are the numbers on the LED display randomly changing ? Unfortunately, if it is a faulty encoder, you will have trouble getting a replacement. Also, what do you mean when you say there's no input, Michael ?

Also, what do you mean when you say there's no input, Michael ? Vortex input light doesn't light up and I hear nothing. Then a while later it works.

Sorry, I don't know what the problem is. A good swing of a 5 kg hammer may solve the problem. It worked on my frozen starter motor once. No, don't thank me....

Oh, I lose email for a couple of weeks and look what happens, not only is there a Cologne loopfest, but they're even talking about the Vortex. Michael's problem is likely to be the jack sockets. Those have switches on them (inside the box) which occasionally need cleaning. If you're using the mono input then a dirty connector will prevent the sound from getting to the other input, creating a flatter sound. Don't know if this would produce the silence on startup though, but worth checking out. Nick's problem with losing the echoes sounds a bit unlikely to be a technical fault, I'd suggest checking all the relevant params before reboot....but the diagnostic would be to switch briefly to a different register, if that doesn't bring back the echoes then it probably is a tech thing.

reminds me I should get my Vortex out and play with it again... or send it back out into the world with a more attentive owner.

I had a vortex when they t were first released and I loved mine it was sooooo cool! Then it died ,first it would do random acts of weirdness, then it just faded away.
