Hey folks, first post! After a long hiatus I have gotten back into looping, I now have a d4 which I love, a dd20, and now a 2880. These for looping although I mostly use the dl4 for it cool expression pedal morphs. Now the sad part. I have a digitech rp250 and its ok but nowhere deep enough fx wise. I want something with a small footprint I want great amp tones and distortions, but I want deep heavy envelopes, crazy modulations, space echos, you know! And lots of tweakability. Oh yeah tap tempo and expression pedal control of as much as I can get. Sorry, (deep breath) In the old days I had a huge rack system and maybe a mile of cables, It got so big I couldn't move it anymore. I want portability. Well? any ideas? I just don't want a rack anymore. I suffer from G.A.S. so I have to be careful, lol. thats enough outta me, peace out, Jeff www.thisphase.org/lips.html

Don't we all I aim to get the basic tone/distortion sorted out and then "spacialise" it with chorus echo etc. To some extent this depends on how and where your stereo field is created. I have an old zoom rack unit which is the final reverb/width device. Live tweakability implies separate units with knobs, all of which increases your footprint. Alternatively, a single unit with great midi control, but that too implies something like a gordius or FCB1010 to tweak things live.

I agree. Back in the "day" I had a 180 deg pedalboard with 2 tiers for stomps and exp. pedals and the rack unit into mackie, into jbl eons and such. I do like to play in stereo. The Vortex was the best! lots of tweakability. I have been looking at the Zoom G92TT and the Line6 PODxt Live. The Line 6 may be what I want. I think of what I do in textures and colors alot. You are right though I need the good tones first, clean and dirty. Anyone used these boxes? oh and I'm on a 500$ max budget. Thanks for the input, Jeff

I just re-read this post, and wondered whether sticks has sorted out his dilema yet. I've been using the korg AX3000G, which may be the sort of thing you're looking for. V good distorted, crunchy and clean tones, nice filter effects, and some really good delays and modulations, including some pretty good space echo type effects. It's all highly tweakable with semi-dedicated knobs. Slightly let down by (1) very poor reverb patches and (2) some HF hiss on the clean sounds (I'd heard that this was deliberate in an attempt to mimic valve hiss - outrageous!). However, the hiss is not too bad to cause a severe problem. I bought mine 2 yrs ago new for a good price (£125 GBP), and it may be worth a look. Another potential problem you may have is the fairly large footprint, but they do pack a lot in. The Boss GT-8 is also highly rated by it's users, and the line 6 should also be on your shopping list.
Sorry for the really late reply, I'm probably too late, you'll have already chosen by now.

Hey all, Steven thanks for the reply. Yes to all you say about the AX 3000g. It really is a good pedal. As you say it's too big. I found it very difficult to program. I still have one. I'll use it someday. Right now it's in it's box. One big problem that I had with it was with reverse delay expression pedal control. The manual says you can control "mix". I cannot get the expression pedal to do that. All other delays I can but not reverse. This alone makes it unworkable as an all in one pedal for me. Also having amp models and distortion pedals in the same group is wrong for me. In fact several groupings on it seemed jumbled as far as what they tossed in. so anyway I have started going to individual fx and am having a better time of it so far a piece at a time. (see my next post) loop on everyone!

OK, I have been changing/adding individual fx and now have made another aquisition! Tomorrow I am receiving 6 of the Alesis modfx boxes. These are the Ampliton, Bitrman, Faze, Philtre, Phlngr and Smashup. I was interested in the Bitrman but got them all in a package deal reasonably. I am asking for any tips, tricks, etc from users of these devices. As of now I am of a mind to sell all but the Bitrman and Philtre but who knows. I have read alot of reviews and such. But I know some of you have lots of hands on experience. I don't even know where to put them in my ever increasing chain of fx. I am such a gear junky! thisphase.org/gear.htmlI need a keyboard stand for all the tabletop stuff inc. the Fuzz Factory. it is so tweakable. The best fuzz I have ever used (yet) Thanks, Jeff www.myspace.com/loopsinphasespace "I never laugh until I've had my coffee." - Clark Gable
