That bit on Kontakte, where the tape sound sweeps down through several octaves.
His observation that music starts with copying others, and moves away from that via a process of transformation. (perhaps not always the case, but helped me to accept it when musicians seemed content merely to imitate)
The extreme effort and attention he put into his music.
..and who else would write music that needed 4 helicopters for a performance

I remember seeing a guy perform a piece for sax and radio by stockhausen. I was certain that it was either going to be boring or pretentious or both...but it instantly grabbed me and I was amazed by how imaginative, odd, beautiful and strangely accessible it was. Since that day I've learned a lot more about his music and continue to be amazed and amused by him. RIP indeed.
