Hi there let me introduce myself , my name is alkis diamantis and i am playing the piano the accordion and the drums`(electric`) also my partner plays the guitar and bass .i discovered recently the world of live looping .. and i am amazed of the the options that i have by creating music this way ! But i am new in this and i have a lot of gaps on understanding the terminology on some basic info i need .. In my home studio i have a mac o s x and i use logic 8 , soundcard(emu0404 usb) ,mixer and my instruments guitars , mics, midi keyboards, alesis usb pro drum kit etc… The reason i make this post is that i need help on my starting equipment for loops.. i don't have a looper nor a software were i can loop ! I would be grateful if u could give some suggestions on software and hardware that i need (for starting looping) What i want is to loop what i play on the fly(i think i need about 6 different loops )having the ability to mute some of them. But i use audio sounds(guitar accordion mouthorgan and some percussions), and software instruments(midi keyboard and electric drums)is that possible? anyway i am bit confused .. so any help would be appreciated

Hi Alkis, welcome to the wonderful world of looping. Here is a helpful chart which gives you specifications of most of the current hardware and software loopers. www.looproom.com/looperchart.phpYour requirement for 6 parallel loops narrows it down to either a looperlative LP1 if you want hardware, although many (probably all) of the software loopers will allow multiple parallel loops. Mobius is freeware, and is not a bad place to start, and although it does have quite a steep learning curve, there is a helpful Mobius forum that would be able to get you started.

Like Stephen says, the LP1 is the only practical hardware for 6 loops that can each be dropped in and out. Do you really need six though? If you overdub layers that go together onto single loops I bet you could get away with 3 loops. Actually, doing it that way is going to be much easier to control. In that case, the Boomerang III might be just the ticket. Of course, there's always the Boss RC-50....can't quite bring myself to recommend it tho'. (not a fan of Roland/Boss).
As you're using soft synths already then I'd also recommend Mobius. You might also like to check out SooperLooper

I find Ambiloop really creative and it's also free. The creator is constantly updating it following user requests. He even added flashing tempo light for me! www.ambiloop.com
