Howdy all! I'm new to the world of looping, caught the bug by listening to Andrew Bird. Like him, I'm a multi-instrumentalist, my main one being violin, and I'd like to do a show similar to his, in which I could record chords and other background stuff live, loop them, and then sing and solo over it.
However, I have NO experience with this kind of technology whatsoever: I'm used to playing acoustic violin and piano, and some jazzy, clean electric guitar. I've experimented with some effects in my (admittedly kinda crappy) Line 6 Spider III 15W amp, and recorded some stuff into my desktop computer through Acoustica Mixcraft with a mic and some of those XLR to USB and TRS to USB cables. I've got a pickup for the violin, allowing me to connect it to stuff with a standard TRS jack, a Roland digital piano, and an electric guitar.
So after all, what am I looking for? An easy-to-use, reliable way for me to perform live on more than one instrument, by using loops recorded right in front of the audience, preferrably all in the same medium for ease of synchronization. From the research I've done, it seems the best way to do this would be through some kind of pedalboard, to which I could connect my instruments and then to the mixing station or directly to the amplifier, if there isn't a mixing station available. The perfect fit would allow me to connect at least the violin, guitar, and piano(in stereo), so at least 4 inputs, and let me do at least 2 or 3 separate loop tracks that could be synched and turned on or off at will, all the while allowing me to overdub each of them.
After all that info, what would you guys recommend me to buy?
Thanks in advance,
ThatViolinDude
