i'm an owner of a stereo Sherman 2 and i consider it is a classic device in recent electronic music production. i waited for years to get one at a reasonable price. They are not cheap, but i didn't meet anybody who wants to give it up; except for an even more expensive analog filter. my personal pros and cons: pros: -it is built like a tank -full analogue sound path -pitch /env follower, great for expressive play -great modulations, it has one of the best ADSR around, the time scales of the parameters can be changed. -it has its sound i do not use it for subtle changes to the material -one of the most useful advanced filters for live applications. it is a full blown synth, with exception of a sound source. hook what ever you like to it and yihaa... cons: -its big, heavy and needs an external power supply. i wouldn't carry it around in a bag. -it has its price compared to the other mentioned filters it is hard to comment. as it is not mentioned in which context it will be used. the sherman would be a key part of the set up, whereas the other two are more complementary. I have seen lot of akai filters in use with groove boxes. the shermans more with electronic/synth/experimental context of a mono voice. for live applications i prefer the waldorf 4pole. it is compact enough to carry around. regards, zense
