I'm presuming (although I can't find any definite evidence for this) that the ebow uses an electromagnetic field to excite the strings. If so, has anyone heard any anecdotes of any resultant harm from this EM radiation (I'm thinking of damage to hardware such as hard drives, EPROMs, etc, rather than biological effects - I'm sure the field would be too weak for that).
I wonder about this whenever I put it down near my equipment.
Guess what I got for Xmas ;D
Stephen
EDIT: I've just been unsuccessful in my attempt to modify the data on a 1.4Mb floppy disc by holding the ebow directly on it, so I suppose it's safe.
Ignore this post.

Somehow it works as a guitar p/u in both directions at once, so fluctuations in the magnetic field are amplified in some kind of feedback loop. This means that when there's no string vibrating, there's no EM radiation. shouldn't that be at the beginning :-) have fun with the bo'

Uhh, hmm, I dunno... an E Bow? I love mine but only use it these days with my acoustic. I use the sustainor in my electric. Different sound but easier to control (for me). I just used the E Bow on a vid I did for the soundtrack. vimeo.com/2809140I'm presuming (although I can't find any definite evidence for this) that the ebow uses an electromagnetic field to excite the strings. I wonder about this whenever I put it down near my equipment. I've heard no reports of ebows affecting male fertility, so go ahead, if it rings your bell.

I have been using the E-bow since '76 or '77 Originally used E-bows with the first batch of Rats. and eventually a delay pedal , a used Space Echo 201.
I now use version 4 with 3 position switch, 1 on, 2 off, 3 harmonic mode. I have guitar just for E-bow and noise stuff that has and Evolution pick up in the bridge position. Robert Fripp really was on to something during his early Frippotronics days using the Watkins Copy Cat delay unit to thicken (slap back?) Since then I have used some kind of delay. Currently for the E-bow set up I'm using a CS3 compressor a DS1 distortion , BF2flanger, CE5Chorus ensemble, tremolo/pan PN 2, and a DM 2 delay Also the NS2 Noise Suppressor and power output for other pedals I hope to add a 4ms Atoner to the signal chain soon.
the E-Bow for me has given me the opportunity to create Drones. Syths have allowed this generating lushious drones to grind to, but the E-Bowed Guitar offers a greater sinuiosness to the performance and sound.

UPDATE I have added the ATONER from 4ms . this thing is robust sounding I recorded , playing some slide blues parts on my Tele and slowly increased the guitar to atoner balance. YOW! the timid slide player was not ready for devil that was conjured! finding an application an how to adjust the various knobs to be able to use this lil' devil will provide many hours of pleasurable and unadulterated tweeking
