picked up this on ebay for a measly 20 quid - half the size of my FX pro - will see how the features are compromised by this. www.123dj.com/mixers/red/xsfx.htmlSorry Simon, guess you missed this one....

finally got the darn thing working - it requires a 16v (yes, 16) supply - not the easiest of things to track down. I finally tried a 15v which worked ok.
The unit is a cut-down version of the FX Pro. Has the same effects (flange / filter, cut / pan / delay), but you're limited to 2 modes; single, where you can use and modify any single effect, or multi, where you choose between 50 preset combinations and cannot edit them. However, all settings have an X_Y joystick and a Z fader, so you can manipulate the sounds to some extent, plus you can switch fx off in multi mode.
Considering it was designed to process and sync to beat-based music, it's superb for loop processing, adding space and timbre change. The FX pro has unlimited editing power, but live, I alwauys feel I'm experimenting somewhat and never fully in control. This unit not only has a smaller footprint, but there's less danger you'll get lost!

I am now the proud owner of Nick's old xs-fx and loving it, currently using it to mangle up the output from my RC20, especially like the cutter and panning, so I'm no longer stuck with the mono OP of the RC20 (hurrah!). Hope to be using it in some gigs in the very near future.
